What a surprise to have our best indoor accommodation experience after a month travelling around Botswana in our last two days before a long way home! Everything is located in a way that you feel full privacy. Our chalet called Mia had a fantastic view over a pan which has water after rains but during our stay it was just a nice vast grassland. The cabin itself is under the trees and large part of walls are made of mosquito net. As a result, even in the heat of the day it was less hot in the cabin than in any other indoor accommodation in Botswana we stayed. The cabin had a little terrace and also outdoor table with bench, so we always had our meals outside. From the cabin we took lovely walks along the path connecting all three cabins. There are plenty of birds around and at night we saw a bushbaby using a torch. Also we saw a duiker in the morning right by one of the cabins. At night we slept as babies enjoying the sound of crickets and other night creatures. Well, this place is not for a focused game viewing but here you have a rare opportunity to walk instead of driving and enjoy the African nature in a very relaxed way. As there is everything in the cabin including gas stove and fridge you can live there fully independently. This gives you a feeling that you actually LIVE in Botswana and not just travelling. This place was great romantic experience for us as a couple but I imagine coming with kids would be very nice and convenient. Actually, at Phazama you get unbeatable combination of remoteness and comfort. This is a great place to start the journey through the country and rest after long flights from home or to have some time to relax already after the incredible but tiring time of game watching. It was just perfect.
Beautiful location in the Okavango Delta. In the middle of nature. Nice drive past villages from Maun. ideal to relax after a hike.
Very quiet and very cozy place in the middle of nature. Katja and Peter received us wonderfully, and the cottage was fully equipped. If you have a 4×4 car and drive well on sandy tracks it is an ideal place to rest for a few days.
Out in the open, far away from the city of Maun. Be prepared for a rough ride to get there, but its absolutely worth it. Hosts are super kind.
I stayed at Phazama farm with Katja and Peter. I just wanted to visit their beautiful place for a couple of days but ended up staying a few weeks. The location, on the flood plain, is just incredible. You are in the middle of nature, where it is peaceful and quiet. Having breakfast while the moneys, squirrels are watching you from the trees above. Every day it was a new adventure as to which animals would visit, and they are many. It is the perfect place to relax / unwind and enjoy nature. Their guesthouses are just beautiful, all located away from each other so that you have the feeling that you are on your own. Katja and Peter really make you feel at home and I will certainly come back!
Originally booked in 2020, we were finally able to stay at Phazama Farm in the summer of 2022, due to the pandemic. Beforehand the communication with Katja and Peter was good, and she sent us clear directions to the Farm. Our four-wheel-drive car was a necessity! But once there, we ‘landed’ in what we felt was the heart of Botswana. From our comfortable cabin with all the amenities needed we could see and hear the troop of monkeys trekking past in the mornings, we heard the birds and we sat and watched the sunrise on the deck. The very first morning Peter came and collected us (a family of four, with two teenage girls), to see the elephants ON the property!
The bush location was just what we expected and was unique. There were also elephants on the property during the night. Accommodation was newly constructed and appropriate for the setting. Peter and Katja were great hosts.
I stayed here with my husband and two children for four nights. What a beautiful place! We stayed in a chalet, everything was very spacious and complete. It was great: waking up and watching the sun rise from a lovely bed, a nice bathroom, showering as if you were standing outside, a good kitchen and outside the braai and fire pit. An extra tent with stretchers was set up for the kids. Also there was a (good!) WiFi platform within walking distance from our chalet. The children were very happy with the good WiFi! Phazama Farm is having your own place in the middle of nature, how relaxt with only the sounds of nature around you. Peter and Katja are wonderful, they give you good tips and are very hospitable. We really enjoyed it !!
The warm hearty feeling I got when I arrived at the farm carried thru till we said our goodbyes, peace and tranquillity resonates in the air with the back track of African safari sounds. The hosts are friendly and gave the farm a homely finish. Thank you for the experience
Dear Katja and Peter, we had the privilege of being the first guests to stay in one of your self-catering chalets. What a wonderful chalet, equipped with all we needed and very luxuriously furnished. It has a well-equipped kitchen where you can prepare a delicious meal, enough storage space for your belongings, a great bathroom with a wonderful hot shower. The bed is very good and has a good mattress, we slept well and long. From our bed we could look at the beautiful African stars and sunset.
The chalet has a nice terrace so that you can enjoy the beautiful landscape. It has a fire pit including firewood for a nice fire during chilly evenings. Your own picnic table with “braai” to prepare a great steak.
The chalet offers a lot of privacy and is in a beautiful setting. At night you have a chance to encounter deer, porcupines, aardvarks and genets. Thanks to the night camera from Katja and Peter we were able to admire these animals.
The hosts are very hospitable and helpful. They arranged a helicopter flight for us, in one word: Super !!! We also made a camping trip and have seen the Big 5. What a fantastic trip that was!
We have spent a week with you, but that should have been much longer for us.
We will definitely be back! Thanks for everything!!

“Traveling for me is also a great opportunity to reconnect with people. Katja Visser and I worked years ago together in woman empowerment & social enterprise & when I started my minifarm in the Netherlands she & Peter started their farm. At the edge of the okavango delta we reconnected at Phazama-farm. Wow, what a soulful place for relaxing, bushwalks, and to see the delta from the air. Amazing to see what Katja and Peter have build, beautiful bushhouses to stay for 4×4 travellers and also to see their start-up moringa farm project, training facility for their empowerment & leadership programs and all with amazing views. Who knows in future times we create another empowering product or training together. For now just enjoying the experience with these beautiful people.” Inge Hoogerheiden
